Dear AUS Parents and Families,
The UAE Ministry of Education (MOE) has confirmed that the suspension of on-campus classes will continue and therefore we will be completing the Spring 2020 semester online. Although we did not expect the sudden change that has impacted course delivery and campus life, AUS is committed to ensuring that students are provided with the opportunity to earn credits to advance in their degree program or complete final graduation requirements this semester.
The UAE MOE has also issued a directive requiring all but essential campus operations to be conducted from home until further notice. All university functions will continue remotely and students can contact academic and administrative units using email and telephone.
Given the extraordinary circumstances, the university has approved temporary changes to some academic policies and deadlines. Complete information is provided under the AUS Academic Updates tab on the following webpage: aus.edu/updates#academics.
We also recognize that the transition to online classes and the current situation can result in heightened anxiety related to academic performance, which is why AUS implemented a number of measures prior to the return to classes following spring break, including a Pass/No Pass option for Spring 2020 courses. Students will have up to June 15, 2020 to decide whether to retain a letter grade or to select the Pass/No Pass option for each course. We have encouraged students to speak with their advisors prior to making a final decision.
We have also made a number of adjustments to the assessment methods used in courses. In making these decisions, the university has considered the balance between maintaining the integrity of academic coursework in order to award university credit and the particular challenges that students face during this time.
We hope that you and your families remain safe.
Dear AUS Parents and Families,
The university is now entering the second week of online classes. The investment of time and effort of faculty and staff has been extraordinary. We are also immensely proud of the students who have taken personal responsibility and demonstrated a commitment to their education.
As indicated earlier, the UAE Ministry of Education announced a suspension of on-campus classes beginning Sunday, March 8, 2020 and continuing until on-campus classes resume on April 5, 2020. There will be no classes during the week of spring break (March 29–April 2, 2020).
Should the Ministry of Education announce an extension to the online course delivery period, we will notify students as soon as possible.
Students who were living in the dorms and returned home following the initiation of online classes have been informed that they should refrain from returning to the dormitories until they receive an update from the Ministry of Education regarding the resumption of classes from April 5, 2020.
If students experience travel-related challenges and are unable to return to AUS should on-campus classes resume as planned on April 5, 2020, we will work with them to address the situation.
All messages that are sent to the students, faculty and staff are provided on a dedicated webpage that is continually updated aus.edu/updates.
