Research interests of the faculty at the Department of Biology, Chemistry and Environmental Sciences (BCE) include: municipal and industrial wastewater treatment, air and liquid filtration, surface characterization, nanomaterials and nanotechnology, chemical sensors and catalysis, gas storage membranes, chemical synthesis, chemistry and public health, cardiovascular and carcinogen diseases, nutritional immunology, obesity, food microbiology, plant and marine ecology, human physiology, environmental analysis and degradation studies, immunoassays and toxicity, environmental policies and regulations, ecosystems management, and analytical and instrumental method developments. BCE laboratories are equipped with advanced, state-of-art instrumentation.

The Department of Writing Studies focuses on the dynamic relationship between thought and the expression of ideas, integrating the best of such practices to the teaching of various levels of writing within culturally diverse and multilingual contexts. |
The Writing Studies research interests relate to rhetoric and composition theory; language and identity; critical classroom pedagogy; curriculum development and assessment, postcolonial literature, interdisciplinary writing, and the teaching of academic writing and global English to L2 students across multidisciplinary contexts. |

The Department of English’s areas of research include intercultural linguistic and literary exchanges in globalized contexts, language acquisition, curricular planning, TESOL, technical and professional language instruction, comparative approaches to literary study, gender studies, literary and cultural modernism and postmodernism, literature and the media, and creative writing. |
The Department of English’s Language faculty’s research relates to applied linguistics and more specifically TESOL and teaching methodologies of academic writing and second language acquisition, intercultural linguistic exchange, education policy and curricular planning. The Department of English’s Literature faculty’s research relates to literature and globalization, colonial and postcolonial studies, women’s literature, literature and Technology, Literature and film, and creative writing. |

Developing mathematical tools and theory with a view towards applications to Engineering and the Sciences. |
Research at the math department covers several areas of applied and pure Mathematics, finance and statistics. Research topics range from classical (geometry, algebra, real and complex analysis, differential equations, operator theory, number theory) to more contemporary (topology, moduli spaces, mathematical finance, coding theory, graph theory, actuarial science). Some research is multidisciplinary and involves collaboration with the engineering and business schools (modeling, data analysis, numerical methods). |

The Performing Arts Program studies music, theatre and dance, as they relate to a synthesis between Western and Middle Eastern traditions, and fulfills these interests through live public performances. |
Performing Arts scholarly interests in Theatre cover Actor Training, Costume and Scenic Design, Events Management, Playwriting, Shakespeare, and Devised Theatre. In Music, they include Classical Piano, Choral Music, Conducting, and Arabic Music vocal ensemble performance. |

The Department of Physics is formed of vibrant faculty members with a broad range of research interests ranging from astrophysics to atomic/ molecular and solid state physics. |
Areas of research include astrophysics, experimental and theoretical atomic/molecular physics, theoretical particle physics, environmental physics, nuclear physics and experimental or theoretical condensed matter physics.
