Edutainment with Flipped IDEAS (October 2020)
As classrooms are inevitably evolving from the traditional approach, educational systems seek an approach that can holistically cater to the visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning needs of students with different strengths. This study thus aims to utilize the current technological advancements towards a virtual environment for learning along with an approach engrained in theories such as the flipped classroom method of teaching, team-based learning and the IDEAS methodology. The research supporting the paper proposes a detailed framework on what needs to be inculcated into the classroom setting by both the instructor and the student and what results can be expected. An experimental study was conducted on students within a course at the graduate level in the United Arab Emirates. The main objective is to study the effect of a virtual learning environment that incorporates the use of a flipped classroom, team-based learning and IDEAS methods on students’ academic performance.
