Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qassimi, Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Sharjah and Founder and President of American University of Sharjah, and, in cooperation with The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the university will hold an international conference entitled "International Conference on the Use of X-ray (and related) Techniques in Arts and Cultural Heritage (XTACH11)".
The conference will focus on the use of analytical and spectroscopic techniques in the fields of arts, archaeology and cultural heritage. Its aim is to bring together leading experts: academics, researchers, scientists, artists and students from the world's premiere institutions to discuss the latest developments in the field from both scientific and cultural aspects. It will provide a forum for scientists in the region to interact, exchange ideas and possibly start collaborations with each other and with the international community. It will promote educational aspects, as well as showcase the latest technical developments in the field of non-destructive testing for the diagnosis and conservation of cultural heritage materials and the environmental impact on these. Chemometrics on artwork, the study of resins, fibers, and forensic applications in art history, provenance and authenticity, are also welcome.
Conference Topics:
The conference topics include the usage of the following techniques:
- X-ray and micro beam x-ray analysis (XRF, PIXE, RBS, XRD, XAS, XPS, SEM-EDX, 3D micro XRF and micro PIXE)
- Synchrotron based techniques
- ion beam and neutron based techniques
- FT-IR and Raman microscopy
- UV-Vis and NIR absorption/reflectance and fluorescence
- Optical imaging
- Laser-based techniques
- Mass spectroscopy (conventional and AMS) and Chromatography (GC HPLC) techniques
