The Department of Mathematics and Statistics of the College of Arts and Sciences will host a seminar by Dr. Graeme Fairweather from the American Mathematical Society, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA.
Abstract: Research ethic involves the application of moral rules and professional codes of conduct to a variety of topics involving scientific research. The importance of adherence to ethical norms in research will be discussed, with emphasis on the key issues of scientific misconduct, publishing practices and responsible authorship. Numerous examples of plagiarism, self-plagiarism and questionable publishing practices from the current mathematics literature will be described.
