AUS hosts CAA Certified Reviewer Project Workshop
American University of Sharjah (AUS) has recently hosted the Certified Reviewer Project Workshop organized by the Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the UAE Ministry of Education's Higher Education Affairs Division. The three-day workshop, held from February 20 to 22, 2023, brought together academic professionals from across the region to participate in the comprehensive training program.
The CAA is a UAE government agency responsible for licensing higher education institutions and evaluating their academic programs for accreditation. It works with both international and local authorities to safeguard academic standards and enhance the learning experience for students in higher education institutions.
An essential initiative of the CAA, the Certified Reviewer Project Workshop prepares academics from select higher education institutions to become qualified reviewers who work as an external review team that assesses institutional requests for licensing and for accreditation of their academic programs.
Each group of participants in the training program must attend three workshops within a year in order to be certified. The second workshop of this round is scheduled to take place at AUS in May.
Dr. Susan Mumm, Chancellor of AUS, highlighted the university's commitment to supporting the CAA’s mission. She said: "We are honored to host the Certified Reviewer Project Workshop as our university is steadfast in its support of the CAA's mission to uphold the highest standards of education in the region. AUS strives to offer its students a world-class education, and this gathering is a testament to our commitment to that goal.”
Following Dr. Mumm's welcome speech, Professor Amjad Qandil, Commissioner at CAA, delivered a warm welcome message. Then, Professor Emad Abuelrub, Commissioner at CAA, presented the CAA Certified Reviewer Project and launched the workshop, which was moderated by Professor Aly Nazmy, Commissioner at the CAA.
Professor Qandil said, “We sincerely thank American University of Sharjah for hosting the Commission's workshop, which aims at capacity building of academics in partner higher education institutions in UAE, as an implementation of its priority to safeguard academic standards.”
American University of Sharjah is licensed and its degree programs are accredited by the CAA. The university’s support of the CAA’s initiatives, including the Certified Reviewer Project Workshop, reflects its commitment to providing a world-class education to its students and contributing to the development of a first-rate education system in the UAE.
