AUS students present gift of warmth to Cleanco staff
Nineteen student volunteers from American University of Sharjah’s (AUS) Community Services Division presented knitted scarves to the university’s cleaning staff assigned outdoors as part of the A Gift of Warmth Campaign held January 31 at the Student Center. The aim of the campaign was to express compassion and care for those people who are working outdoors and exposed to the cold weather this season.
Prior to the campaign, two knitting workshops were conducted to orient student volunteers with knitting and to teach them the basic skills needed to make the scarves. The students knitted a good number of scarves as a result of the workshops.
“The gesture reflects a sense of care that students have for the Cleanco staff. It represents the importance of giving back to the community and showcases a way of saying thank you to the staff for all their efforts,” said Yameena Naqvi, a senior chemical engineering major. “The whole process, from making the scarves to giving them to the workers, was a heartwarming one which gave us a chance to thank them for their daily efforts and provided us with the joy of putting a smile on their faces,” she added.
