AUS students visit Sharjah Al Hisn Fort Museum
A group of students from the American University of Sharjah (AUS) Student Multicultural Learning Program visited the newly renovated Sharjah Al Hisn Fort Museum on October 20, 2015. The visit was organized in collaboration with Sharjah Museums Department as part of the program's UAE Cultural Trip Series aimed at introducing students to the local culture, heritage and history.
The students were welcomed in a traditional Arabic style setting called majlis by specialists from the Sharjah Museums Department who introduced the students to the UAE culture, customs and traditions through an interactive cultural awareness session. The students then visited the museum's different sections where they learned about the modern history of Sharjah, the ruling family, the history of the fort, the defense methods used back then and Sharjah's everyday life 200 years ago. Located in the heart of Sharjah, Sharjah Fort was built in 1823 and was considered as the emirate's government headquarters and the residence of the Al Qawasim ruling family.
"We at AUS have a highly diverse student body comprising of more than 90 nationalities. Through the multicultural program, we aim to enhance the cultural awareness of our students by engaging them in cultural learning experiences. The UAE Cultural Trip Series educates students about the UAE culture, heritage, and its development throughout history," said Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Dean of Students.
