AUS team makes its mark at UAEU art competition
Six students from American University of Sharjah (AUS) successfully participated in the recently held Art Competition organized by United Arab Emirates University (UAEU). Held May 22 at UAEU's campus, the Art Competition entitled "Flowers" featured painting and photography works of 42 student competitors from eight universities across the UAE.
The AUS team comprised: Hala Kojak, Marwa Jarkas, Eman Shafiq, Waleeya Ahmed, Mayla Afzal and Fatemeh Mirshafiei. Kojak won third place in the competition.
"I am proud that my art work was recognized in this competition and received third place. The competition was really tough with many entries that were really creative and beautiful. I thank Student Affairs for arranging our participation in this very challenging competition," said Kojak, a junior majoring in finance.
"We have many creative and gifted students at AUS. We support these budding talents by providing them with a platform where they can compete and display their work while at the same time socialize and network with their peers from other educational institutions who share their passion," said Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. "I congratulate our students for their successful participation and for winning third place," she added.
The UAEU Art Competition is in its fourth season and includes work done by students from higher education institutions across the UAE. The competition aims to promote and develop the artistic talents of students by providing them with learning experiences that will raise their aesthetic concepts and perceptions.
The winners received cash prizes and all participants received merit certificates. The students' participation in the event was organized by Office of Student Affairs' Student Development and Organizations Department.
