CEN team wins second place at the SPE-ADIPEC competition
Students from the College of Engineering (CEN) at American University of Sharjah (AUS) won second place at the University Challenge Competition held by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) in conjunction with the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) last month.
The AUS team presented a project entitled Gas Leakage-Prevention and Detection, and provided the audience with a solution that consists of two parts: prevention and monitoring. Prevention is achieved by applying nano-coatings, and thermal cameras are used for monitoring.
The team also presented their work for the "thinkscience" competition, where they focused on creating a control system that aims to connect the thermal cameras to a plant's control room.
The winning CEN team included Sarah Suleiman (chemical engineering), Ruba al Kadi (electrical engineering), Lexian Teng (chemical engineering), Rayan Khaiwi (chemical engineering), Rakan Eid (civil engineering) and Ibrahim Salahat (mechanical engineering).
SPE is the largest individual-member organization serving managers, engineers, scientists and other professionals worldwide in the upstream segment of the oil and gas industry, while the ADIPEC recognizes and rewards the very best that the oil and gas industry has to offer in the region.
