Sharjah Entrepreneurship Festival hosts AUS Authentic Leadership Executive Workshop
Dr. Linzi J. Kemp, an internationally renowned leadership expert from American University of Sharjah (AUS), led a workshop on authentic leadership at this year’s Sharjah Entrepreneurship Festival, held November 25–26. The workshop was organized by AUS Executive Education in collaboration with long-time partners Sharjah for Capability Development (SCD), part of Rubu’ Qarn Foundation.
The festival brought together a diverse group of participants who have embarked on their entrepreneurial journey, or who are considering an entrepreneurial future. Festival participants had access to a number of high-profile entrepreneurship experts, who provided advice, knowledge and inspiration to those in the audience. For Dr. Kemp, who is an Associate Professor in AUS’ School of Business Administration, this was an opportunity to demonstrate the link between entrepreneurial success and strong leadership. Dr. Kemp believes the achievements of many prosperous entrepreneurs comes down to strong leadership. She said:
“Teams that have self-aware, emotionally intelligent leaders typically outperform those which do not. These are traits of a leader that we describe as an ‘authentic.’ This workshop helped to show up-and-coming entrepreneurs how to embed these authentic leadership skills through teamwork.”
Eleni Papailia, Manager for AUS Executive Education, said: “Serving our stakeholder communities through engagement in mutually beneficial activities is part of our mission.”
Dr. Kemp’s workshop explored issued relevant to emerging start-ups, including team dynamics, structuring teams to maximize effectiveness, resolving conflict and persuading others. Participants underwent personal assessment to create their own tailored plan to ensure the skills learnt in the workshop have impact in their workplaces.
