Student-run Sharjah Academic Orientation Forum held at AUS

Mubadara Group, in collaboration with American University of Sharjah (AUS), held the Sharjah Academic Orientation Forum in the AUS Main Building on April 28-30, 2013.

The Student Academic Orientation Forum was launched in 2012 by Mubadara Group with an aim to direct and guide high school students to select the major that is appropriate for them. Mubadara Group is run exclusively by student volunteers. Mubarada Group develops, designs, produces and manages live meetings, entertainment programs, academic projects and events aimed at providing a platform for students to implement their ideas.

"The orientation is an enjoyable experience. I was also able to learn more about the other majors on offer," said Sabri Al Otaibi, a junior majoring in electrical engineering at AUS. "We managed to help a lot of students," he added.

"The purpose of the orientation forum is to guide prospective university students for the major they should take," said Baraa Al Jelani, a junior majoring in electrical and electronics engineering at the University of Sharjah who is also a Mubadara volunteer.

"Many students change their minds after a year or so when they discover that their major is not for them. We believe that prospective students should know from the students themselves," he added.

"It's a pleasure to be here and ask students from their field instead of asking advisors. The exhibitions are simple but exciting at the same time," said Amal Hussein, a student from Al Refaa School.

Students from 47 private and public high schools in the UAE were present at the event. Mubadara volunteers advised the students on 30 different majors including pharmacy, dentistry, law, and mechanical engineering, among others.

The event was organized by the Sharjah Education Zone and Mubadara Group in collaboration with AUS.
