Contents(s): CAAD Student Exhibition (June 2015)
Hunar Gallery, Dubai, is hosting a group exhibition by American University of Sharjah (AUS) students who elected to study drawing and painting to complement their area of degree specialization. Inaugurated on June 2 and open till June 22, the exhibition showcases work by students who explore the basic processes and materials used for personal expression in art via charcoal, pencil, pen, oil, markers and ink.
Content(s), as the exhibition is titled, indicates the subject matter or significance of a work of art, especially as contrasted with its form. The subject of the artwork may be still life (objects), portrait (the body) or landscape/interior (place). Students have attempted to recognise and represent the connotative, symbolic and suggestive aspects of the subject or the content(s) they have chosen to depict.
The show is divided into two parts: Intermediate Drawing (ID) and Contemporary Art (CA). It is mentored by David Hewitt, Associate Professor, Design, College of Architecture, Art and Design, AUS. ID, as Hewitt points out, is one of the unique opportunities that provide AUS students with an outlet for visual exploration and self-expression.
