Drupal Web Developer- Fixed term contract for 6 months
The Department of ICT & IT Security at the American University of Sharjah seeks to hire a skilled and experienced Drupal 10/11 Developer to join our team on a contract/project basis. This role is ideal for a self-motivated, detail-oriented developer who thrives in a dynamic work environment and enjoys tackling complex challenges in portal development and enterprise digital services.
As part of our IT department, you will be responsible for developing, enhancing, and maintaining Drupal-based portals and enterprise applications that support internal and external stakeholders. You will collaborate closely with our IT team, ensuring the delivery of secure, scalable, and high-performance solutions tailored to the needs of our organization.

Job Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain enterprise-grade Drupal 10/11 portals and applications.
- Create and extend custom modules to enhance functionality and integrate external systems.
- Optimize application performance using caching, database indexing, and best coding practices.
- Implement secure authentication and access control (OAuth, SSO solutions).
- Migrate existing applications from legacy versions (Drupal 7/8/9) to Drupal 10/11, ensuring data integrity.
- Integrate APIs and web services (REST, GraphQL) to facilitate external system communication.
- Enhance UX/UI by implementing responsive, accessible, and user-friendly interfaces using modern front-end frameworks.
- Troubleshoot and resolve Drupal-related issues, including performance bottlenecks and security vulnerabilities.
- Maintain technical documentation for modules, configurations, and development workflows.
- Stay up to date with the latest technological trends, tools, and best practices.
Qualifications and Skills Required
- Bachelor’s degree in design, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Acquia Certified Developer certification and proficiency in the English language are mandatory requirements for this role.
- Proven experience in developing portals and applications with Drupal 9/10/11.
- Strong proficiency in PHP (Symfony), TypeScript/JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS/Sass.
- Hands-on experience with Drupal 10/11 theming, module development, and backend configurations.
- Expertise in Composer, Drush, and Configuration Management in Drupal.
- Experience with front-end tooling, Git version control, and CI/CD code lifecycle.
- Experience with API integrations (REST, GraphQL, JSON: API) and handling secure data exchanges.
- Solid understanding of access control mechanisms, content workflows, and Drupal entity types.
- Knowledge of decoupled/headless Drupal implementations with frameworks like React, Vue.js, Angular, and Lit.
- Knowledge of Acquia or Pantheon hosting environments is a bonus.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently or as part of a team, and experience in agile development workflows.

- Direct collaboration with the IT department—no external stakeholders or third-party involvement.
- Expected availability for specific project tasks, bug fixes, and urgent technical support.
