Mechanical Engineering Laboratory Instructor | College of Engineering
The Laboratory Instructor will teach and supervise laboratory sessions for the new degree in Intelligent Systems and Mechatronics Engineering, The Department of Mechanical Engineering (MCE) at the American University of Sharjah (AUS).
The Laboratory Instructor will have Responsibilities that includes providing high-quality laboratory instruction to students and trainees, preparing lab materials in consultation with faculty, and contributing to the continuous improvement of lab course materials. Additionally, following all safety guidelines and enforcing these guidelines at all times in the laboratory are essential attributes of this role.
Job Responsibilities
- Instruct in Mechatronics and Mechanical Engineering laboratories while monitoring, maintaining, and enforcing all needed safety guidelines.
- Compile, administer, grade, and evaluate students' laboratory work.
- Work with faculty to prepare and develop laboratory activities and course materials such as syllabi, handouts, and lab manuals.
- Closely administer lab activities and provide timely feedback to the department.
- Assist students in senior design project activities.
- Work with faculty to select and procure materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Follow up with Procurement lab equipment/materials requisitions and maintain lab inventory.
- Serve on academic or administrative committees that deal with institutional policies, departmental matters, and academic issues.
- Provide students with course-related experiences outside the classroom, such as field trips.
- Participate in student registration and placement activities.
- Support students’ extracurricular activities.
- Complete other service duties as assigned by the Head of Department.
Qualifications and Skills Required
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or other related disciplines.
- Preferably 2 years of experience in the same or a similar field.
- Knowledge of MCE-related software packages such as C, C++, MATLAB, etc… and programming and IT skills.
- Proficiency in Robot Operating System (ROS).
- Excellent (spoken, written and reading) communication skills in English.
- Experience in teaching MTR and MCE laboratories.
- Strong analytical skills.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- Master’s degree in Mechatronics Engineering
- Experience as a teaching assistant in MTR and MCE laboratories
