CEN Lecture Series | Targeted Drug Delivery in Cancer Treatment (March 2023)
Professor Ghaleb Husseini, Professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the AUS College of Engineering, works in the area of ultrasonic drug delivery. His research investigates new drug delivery systems to reduce the side effects of chemotherapy by encapsulating the chemotherapeutic agent in a nano-sized carrier until it reaches the tumor site. Once the nanocarrier reaches the diseased site, ultrasound is applied to release the chemotherapy drug directly to the cancer site, thus avoiding any interaction with the healthy cells in the body. This minimizes the adverse side effects of chemotherapy and improves the lives of cancer patients undergoing this treatment. This will also discuss the process of getting a US patent issued in this research domain.
Host: Dr. Rana Sabouni, Associate Professor, Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at AUS
