Active students awarded scholarships
Six outstanding students from American University of Sharjah (AUS) were honored with Active Student Scholarship awards on Monday, March 5. A special ceremony was held in the AUS Board Room and the awards were presented by AUS Chancellor, Dr. Peter Heath. Also in attendance was Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and other senior officials.
The scholarships for Spring 2012 were awarded to Jashan Jot Singh and Sina M. Tarabi, members of Student Clubs and Organizations; Sana H. Abdul Majeed and Omar M. Kayali, Community Services volunteers; and Sara S. Choobbor and Bilal A. Maarouf, members of the Student Leadership Program.
The Active Student Scholarships are awarded to undergraduate students who display dedication and excellence in extracurricular activities including community service projects, clubs and participate in the Student Leadership Program.
"This scholarship program aims to encourage and support our students who have served the community and the university. I am very proud of these students as they have made the most of the extracurricular opportunities offered by AUS," said Dr. Heath.
According to Dr. Al Shehhi, "These students were selected because of their sheer dedication to the enhancement of student life at AUS. They are role models for their peers as they depict the perfect balance between education and extracurricular activities."
The scholarships, renewable each semester, give the awardees up to 50 percent tuition remission.
