AUS and Athena Education sign MoU as part of the university’s Sharakah program
American University of Sharjah (AUS) and Athena Education signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) recently as part of the university’s Sharakah program. One of the university’s community engagement initiatives, the popular Sharakah program fosters partnerships between AUS and select schools from around the country.
The signing ceremony was held virtually and was attended by senior officials from both institutions, including Professor Kevin Mitchell, Chancellor of AUS, and Presanna Raj, Managing Director and CEO of Athena Education, an organization that operates a number of schools across the UAE.
The agreement highlights a number of areas in which the institutions will cooperate, including partnering in the recruitment of outstanding students from varied socio-cultural and economic backgrounds to AUS. According to the MoU, AUS will also provide partial scholarships to deserving students nominated by the schools, as well as organize workshops for faculty and staff in areas needed. It will also offer SAT, TOEFL, EmSAT and IELTS preparation courses, and patronage of selected research, cultural, social and sports events organized by the school.
Speaking on the occasion, Ali Shuhaimy, Executive Director of Enrollment Management at AUS, said:
“For us at AUS, the Sharakah program is one of our most significant initiatives as it provides us with an opportunity to reach out to the community. It also helps us forge valuable partnerships with educational institutions across the country and allows us to receive direct feedback from principals, teachers and students which, in turn, play an important part in helping us keep our curriculum in tune with the demands and needs of students. Therefore, we are very pleased to welcome Athena Education to this program and look forward to collaborating closely with their schools.”
