AUS and The First Academy sign Memorandum of Understanding
As part of its Sharakah program, American University of Sharjah (AUS) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The First Academy, Ajman. One of the university’s community engagement initiatives, the successful Sharakah program aims to foster partnerships between AUS and select schools from around the UAE.
Professor Kevin Mitchell, AUS Chancellor, and Rizwan Jawaid, Principal of The First Academy, participated in the virtual ceremony along with other senior officials from both institutions.
Commenting on the MoU, Professor Mitchell said:
“We are pleased to welcome The First Academy to the Sharakah program, which aims to enhance collaboration with schools throughout the UAE to provide students with opportunities for enrichment through academic and co-curricular activities. The initiatives and events organized through the Sharakah program allow students to explore a variety of majors and disciplines so that they can make informed choices about their future. We look forward to collaborating with colleagues from The First Academy to advance our respective educational missions.”
Jawaid welcomed the agreement and noted:
“It is a pleasure to be a part of the Sharakah program. It is a great opportunity for our students to collaborate with AUS from the point of view of entry into the university through the Sharakah program. I hope and pray that this collaboration between our two institutions bears a lot of fruit with our students benefitting and moving on to higher climbs.”
The MoU aims to enhance collaboration between the two institutions through the recruitment of outstanding students from varied socio-cultural and economic backgrounds to the university. According to the agreement, AUS will provide partial scholarships to deserving students nominated by the school and offer support for research, cultural, social and sports events organized by the school. The school students will also have the opportunity to actively participate in the annually planned university events, and cultural and extracurricular activities.
The signing ceremony was also attended by Dr. Juan Sanchez, Provost and Chief Academic Officer at AUS, who said:
“I would like to welcome The First Academy as a partner in the Sharakah Program. The program has been extremely successful in fostering mutually beneficial collaboration between local schools and AUS in a broad range of areas. I am quite confident that the program will be enriched by the participation of The First Academy.”
“It gives me great pleasure to welcome The First Academy to the Sharakah program. We are committed to providing a rich and beneficial experience to all our partner schools and look forward to a promising and fruitful collaboration with The First Academy,” said Ali Shuhaimy, Executive Director of Enrollment Management at AUS.
