AUS architecture professor’s work part of group show in New York
Work by a faculty member from American University of Sharjah (AUS) is part of a wonderful art exhibition currently being held at the Tower Fine Arts Center Gallery in Brockport, New York. Entitled Thinking About Drawing, the exhibition comprises the work of nine artists, including Eirik Heintz, who is Professor of Architecture and the Director of the Foundations Program at the AUS College of Architecture, Art and Design (CAAD).
Curated by Jim Morris, Professor of Art at The College of Brockport, State University of New York (SUNY), the exhibition presents various ways and ideas related to drawing. Along with the traditional methods of drawing that use ink, pencil or paint, the exhibition also contains work done using technology. “Works have been created using Computer Numerical Control (CNC) routers or industrial pumps to disperse inks. One artist utilizes photo and video imagery that has been altered by handwork, while one designer uses software to help scientists visualize medical processes,” explains Morris.
Speaking about his work, Professor Heintz said:
“My work explores spatial and graphic integration and layering of various forms of representation.” He said that it often includes the use of text, image and architectural drawing, superimposed and assembled into a loosely structured, multi-layered composition that addresses the hybrid nature of cultural imagery and visual identity.
The exhibition will run until December 8.
