AUS community joins hands in Tarahum with Gaza campaign
In the presence of Her Excellency Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al-Qasimi, President of American University of Sharjah (AUS), the university’s Palestinian Cultural Club (PCC), in collaboration with the UAE Red Crescent and the Big Heart Foundation, launched a three-week Tarahum with Gaza Campaign on campus on October 18, feeding into the Tarahum campaign launched by the UAE Red Crescent in aid and the Big Heart Foundation for people affected by the war in Gaza.
Embodying the values of empathy, unity and transformative giving, the campaign was supported by the AUS Community Service and Outreach, AUS Student Council, AUS Jordanian Club and more than 20 other AUS cultural and interest-oriented student clubs, the on-campus campaign commenced with two days of awareness-building activities, followed by the collection of monetary and in-kind donations.
"With the Tarahum with Gaza campaign, AUS reaffirms its dedication to the ideals of shared responsibility and community impact. This campaign is our way of making a tangible impact, channeling our collective compassion towards a cause that deeply resonates with our community to create a meaningful difference in the lives of those in Gaza," said Haifa Ismail, Director of Student Engagement and Leadership at AUS.
In addition to collecting donations from the campus community, campaign organizers have mapped out plans for special events designed for school students and AUS alumni to provide avenues for participation.
Abdalla Darwish, senior accounting student and President of the PCC, emphasized the importance of AUS community collective efforts in the Tarahum with Gaza campaign.
"As the President of the PCC, I am honored to lead the Tarahum with Gaza campaign. Our mission transcends borders and differences, as we unite under the banner of compassion and support for the Palestinian cause. Together, we illuminate the path to a brighter future for Palestine," he said.
