AUS faculty member appointed Global Compact Network UAE board member
Dr. John Katsos, Associate Professor of Management at American University of Sharjah (AUS), has been appointed as a member of the board of directors of Global Compact Network UAE following the elections for the general assembly composed of UN Global Compact Signatories and Participants based in the UAE.
The AUS School of Business Administration (SBA) became a member of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) in 2015 and sits on the Steering Committee of the UNGC Local Network for the United Arab Emirates. The school is also an Advanced Signatory of the Principles of Responsible Management Education (PRME), co-chair of PRME’s Business for Peace Working Group, and became the 50th UAE signatory to the United Nation’s Women’s Empowerment Principles last year.
Commenting on his appointment, Dr. Katsos said:
“It is an incredible honor to continue to serve on the board on behalf of the School of Business Administration. The UNGC Local Network and the AUS SBA will continue to work together through this relationship. Over the past four years, the UNGC has provided unparalleled opportunities for our students to learn about business ethics, social responsibility, and sustainability in practice. Together we will also continue to show that our students and alumni are the very best in the nation and the region at understanding ethics and sustainability issues as applied to business.”
The board’s responsibilities include providing ongoing strategic and policy advice for the local network in the UAE and helping bring business to the table in support of Agenda 2030.
The Global Compact Network UAE, which was launched in 2015, has successfully raised awareness on the UN Global Compact Ten Principles and the SDGs within its specific country context. The United Nations Global Compact is the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative mobilizing a global movement of sustainable companies and stakeholders.
