AUS Holds Study Skills Workshops for Sharakah Schools
Following on from the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between American University of Sharjah (AUS) and the American School of Creative Science (ASCS), discussions between officials from the AUS Achievement Academy and ASCS administrators and counselors identified a need to help the grade 12 students think about the transition from high school to tertiary education contexts. Both institutions felt that providing study skills workshops to grade 12 students would contribute to a more effective transition to university experience in Fall 2020.
Claire Murphy and Diala Awwad, Senior instructors at the AUS Achievement Academy, delivered two 60-minute Study Skills workshops for 150 grade 12 students at ASCS on January 16. They first delivered the interactive session to the Grade 12 girls and then welcomed the grade 12 boys.
The workshop covered study strategies, time management, and building good habits. There were several competitive components, which the students actively engaged with and they loved the AUS prizes they received.
AUS prospectuses were placed on each table, however, instructors kept the information of the session focused on general strategies for success. Many students picked up the AUS collateral and asked very specific questions about AUS entry requirements. Students were asked, by show of hands, how many were looking to study abroad. Approximately 15 out of 75 students in each group indicated that they were planning to study at a university outside UAE. This meant that roughly 120 students out of the 150 students who attended the sessions were looking for tertiary education options in the UAE.
