AUS holds workshop on data science and application
Data science is now recognized as one of the fastest growing areas in industry, academia and research, said Dr. Hana Sulaiman, Head of the Department of Math and Statistics at AUS, in her opening statement at the first Data Science and Application workshop at the university on November 15.
The workshop provided a platform for industry and academia to come together to discuss the latest trends in data science practices and innovation in their respective fields.
During his opening remarks at the event, Dr. Mahmoud Anabtawi, Dean of College of Arts and Sciences, spoke of data science being one of the most interesting fields in the world at present.
"Big data is now omnipresent in the UAE, and the technologies to collect and store it are expanding day after another from Salik tags to online shopping trends. The problem is that good analysis can be difficult. Data analysts in the UAE are rare, so there is high demand for such skills. With AUS moving towards becoming one of the region’s leading research centers in areas such as smart cities, Gulf environment, biosciences and bioengineering, this workshop will prove to be beneficial to our students, faculty members and industry experts."
