AUS hosts Jordanian singer Macadi Nahhas
American University of Sharjah (AUS) hosted a performance by Macadi Nahhas, a leading voice among young Jordanian artists, at the AUS Main Auditorium on Tuesday, February 23, 2016. The event was attended by AUS Chancellor Dr. Björn Kjerfve and other senior officials.
Organized by the AUS Cultural Events Committee in partnership with the Jordanian Business Council and the AUS Jordanian Culture Club, the event began with an a cappella performance by Nahhas, followed by several pieces performed along with three other musicians playing the piano, drums and bass guitar.
Using her powerful voice, sparkling talent and astonishing presence, Nahhas revived songs from the Middle Eastern heritage and folklore including with an added contemporary style. Her music was a subtle mix of styles ranging from classical to oriental, Latin to jazz, and drawing heavily on Arabic maqamat and melodic structures.
Different age groups enjoyed the performance, ranging from students and faculty members, to parents and children. Nahhas also performed songs requested by the audience that reflected many other cultures.
Since her live performance at the Jerash Festival in 1997, Nahhas has been active in the music scene and performed at various cultural festivals and events in Jordan, Lebanon, Tunisia, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Denmark, Canada, USA, Dubai, Bahrain, Belgium, Holland and more. Nahhas holds a diploma in music from the Music Conservatory of Beirut.
