AUS launches industrial engineering degree to meet industry demand
American University of Sharjah (AUS) islaunching a new bachelor's degree in industrial engineering (IE) in the fall semester starting in September 2012. Approved for full accreditation by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, through its Commission on Academic Accreditation (CAA), the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering will be offered at the AUS College of Engineering (CEN).
One of the fastest growing professions, industrial engineering integrates people, capital, material, equipment and information in an efficient way to produce and distribute goods and services with high quality at a low cost.
According to AUS Provost, Dr. Thomas Hochstettler, "The AUS industrial engineering program will be multidisciplinary and oriented towards both manufacturing- and services-oriented organizations. Based on the feedback from the business community, the program will focus on logistics, supply chain as well as quality and maintenance engineering."
AUS will offer a distinctive curriculum for the program that combines engineering and managerial knowledge. This new program complements the engineering majors the university offers, making it unique in the region in the variety of engineering programs available.
