AUS ranked #1 in UAE for environmental sustainability by QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2025
American University of Sharjah (AUS) has been recognized as the top university in the UAE for environmental sustainability in the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2025. This ranking reflects AUS’ dedication to fostering a sustainable future through impactful environmental policies, practices and education.
Over the past two years, AUS has implemented a range of initiatives that have directly contributed to this accomplishment. These include committing to net-zero emissions by 2050 through a comprehensive Climate Action Plan, establishing an annual Greenhouse Gas Emissions reporting framework and enhancing sustainability literacy through dedicated programs for students and staff. Additionally, AUS has integrated sustainable practices into procurement policies and supported student-driven sustainability efforts, fostering a campus-wide culture of environmental responsibility.
“This result reflects our continuous efforts to promote sustainable practices across all facets of the university. It highlights the collective commitment of the AUS community to creating a greener, more resilient future," said Omar Al Nuaimi, Head of AUS Sustainability.

The QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2025 evaluated 1,743 universities across 107 countries and territories, including 10 institutions in the UAE. AUS’ accomplishment reinforces its role as a leader in environmental sustainability in the region. Overall, AUS is ranked fourth in the UAE and among the top 630 universities globally.
