AUS recognizes outstanding students at the Annual Student Appreciation Awards
American University of Sharjah (AUS) honored students from various student organizations, volunteer groups, university leadership programs and sports teams at its Annual Student Appreciation Awards on May 2.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Lisa Bardil Moscaritolo, Executive Director of Student Experience, said: “We had a great year with active involvement and engagement with our students. The annual appreciation awards are a time to celebrate our accomplishments in student life. We get to recognize our athletes who demonstrated their hard work and the competitive spirit we have for our university. We also get to recognize our student leaders who worked hard to offer vibrant social and learning opportunities outside of the classroom. The Office of Student Affairs looks forward to this time of year as we celebrate as a community the many successes of our athletes and student leaders.”
Students were recognized under three award categories: athletics and recreation, residential life and student engagement and leadership. Twenty-four awards were distributed including 16 that were awarded to individual students and eight others to groups.
Under the athletics and recreation category, the Most Outstanding Female Athlete Award and Most Outstanding Male Athlete Award went to Mariam Ammary in the women’s volleyball team and Suood Al Khateeb in the men’s soccer team respectively for demonstrating outstanding athletic ability and talent in their respective sport and for their dedication to AUS athletics throughout the academic year. The Most Improved Player Award went to student Karen El Khoury in the women’s volleyball team for showing the most progress over the season and demonstrating qualities of consistency, dedication to practice and leadership. Student Adam Eltantawi in the men’s soccer team received the Most Inspirational Athlete Award for inspiring others due to their ability to overcome, displaying qualities of tenacity, self-discipline and an indomitable spirit. The Team of the Year Award went to the women's volleyball team.
In the residential life category, the Female Resident Assistant of the Year Award and Male Resident Assistant of the Year Award went to Arwa Abdellatif and Jawwad Imran Sheikh respectively for demonstrating exceptional contributions to their residential community through program development, addressing student needs, supporting their peers and senior staff, and commitment to community and leadership development. The Female Residential Hall of the Year Award and Male Residential Hall of the Year Award went to EF women’s residential halls and GH men's residential halls respectively.
In recognition of first-year students who have taken the initiative to get involved in
AUS student organizations and showing potential as a leader, the First Year Leadership Award went to student Award-Qusai Al Tah.
Under student engagement and leadership, students Mohamed ElMohandes and Alfaisal Fadhil Sultan received the Most Outstanding Student Leadership Award for their exemplary leadership, dedication and commitment through selfless acts of leadership within their involvement in the Student Leadership Program. Student Ahmed Noureldin received the Most Outstanding Student Volunteer Award for his high record of serving the community and in promoting the welfare of the underprivileged throughout the academic year. Hoor Al Ansaari and Shadn Mansour received the Most Proactive Student Award in acknowledgment of their efforts, commitment, hard work and contributions towards the enhancement of student life on campus.
The Student Organization President of the Year Award went to Fatima Mahroos and Layan Al Sourani (Academic/Student Council), and Mohammad Walid and Muhammad Junaid (Cultural Clubs) in recognition of their contributions towards the advancement of extracurricular activities at AUS.
The Best Student Organization of the Year Award went to the Entrepreneurship Club, American Chemical Society Student Chapter, the Emirati Cultural Club and the Indian Culture Club,
The Most Outstanding Program of the Year Award went to the American Sign Language Initiative.
