AUS-SEWA MOU enhances internships and research opportunities for students
American University of Sharjah (AUS) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) as part of the College of Engineering’s (CEN) Al Nukhba (Elite) program to enhance educational and professional opportunities for AUS students.
"This collaboration with SEWA, marking our first partnership with a government entity in Sharjah, reflects our commitment to supporting the UAE's national innovation strategy by providing exceptional educational and professional development opportunities for our students.Through joint research projects that foster innovation and practical learning, we are equipping our students with the skills and knowledge essential for their future careers,” said Dr. Fadi Aloul, Dean of CEN.
Designed to enrich students' learning and strengthen industrial outreach, the Al Nukhba program focuses on establishing industry partnerships in various areas.
The partnership will enable CEN students to learn and grow through internships, which are a part of their degree requirements. Furthermore, AUS and SEWA will jointly supervise selected capstone and research projects, offering students valuable insights from industry professionals. Capstone projects are an important part of the American pedagogical system, marking the completion of a degree program; they are designed to consolidate final-year students’ learning by combining academic and industry experience to solve real-world problems.
Organized field trips will provide students with firsthand exposure to SEWA’s operations, offering practical insights into the energy industry. Joint research and development projects will help address important challenges within the energy and utility sectors.
The CEN Al Nukhba program is a testament to AUS’ efforts to enhance the employability of its graduates and contribute to the development of a skilled and innovative workforce in the UAE. By establishing strategic partnerships with leading industry players like SEWA, AUS ensures its students receive a well-rounded education that combines theoretical knowledge and practical experience.
