AUS Sharakah Sports Festival attracts nearly 1,800 participants
American University of Sharjah (AUS) was abuzz with around 1,800 male and female students from 60 schools across UAE participating in the Sharakah Sports Festival held on January 21, 2023 at the AUS sports fields. The event saw students from the university’s Sharakah partner schools in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Ras Al Khaimah competing in a number of sporting events including soccer, basketball, volleyball, table tennis and 100-meter race.
Organized by the AUS Office of Enrollment Management (OEM)-Sharakah Program, the event is an AUS community outreach program that encourages students from Sharakah schools to become active and healthy members of their community and spread the ethos of respect, persistence, fair-play and discipline.
The Sports Festival witnessed enthusiastic matches taking place throughout the day along with several entertaining activities such as a bouncy castle, henna, face painting, and the varied offerings of food and refreshments to mark this day-long event.
“Sharakah Sports Festival helps school students develop practical skills such as teamwork, discipline, sportsmanship, cooperation, dedication and decision-making, as well as inspires and fuels their passion for sports to maximize their athletic potential. It’s an event that I am sure is awaited by many high school students, and we strive at AUS to foster a healthy educational environment for youth to better impact the world,” said Ali Shuhaimy, Executive Director of Enrollment Management.
Shuhaimy added:”Sharakah Sports Festival was a rousing success, with all the students being commended for their enthusiasm and energy. We were all proud of this year’s success, with around 1,800 students participating and competing, and we will remain committed to reinforcing a positive environment and promoting healthy lifestyles among the community as a whole.”
The AUS Sharakah Program fosters partnerships with select schools in the UAE and the region to engage school students and teachers by offering a wide range of events, activities and a scholarship program as part of the university’s community engagement strategic initiative.
