AUS signs Sharakah agreement with Philadelphia Private School
American University of Sharjah (AUS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Philadelphia Private School (PPS) on December 14. The agreement aims to enable future partnerships and provides a framework of cooperation between the two educational institutions. The partnership is part of the Sharakah program, a strategic initiative by the Office of Enrollment Management at AUS to promote sustainable partnerships with selected schools from across the United Arab Emirates.
Present at the signing ceremony were Ali Shuhaimy, Executive Director, Office of Enrollment Management; Dr. Leland Blank, Interim Provost; Elizabeth Sadek, Principal of PPS; and Wael Ibrahim, PPS school counselor.
According to Shuhaimy, "I am very pleased to announce that today AUS added the Philadelphia Private School to our Sharakah program. This program engages select schools with AUS and offers activities that augment the academic and extracurricular progress of the students. The program also serves as a professional development resource for the schools' teachers. We look forward to a very productive collaboration with Philadelphia Private School in the coming years."
The agreement will include partnership in the recruitment of outstanding students from varied socio-cultural and economic backgrounds to AUS. Additionally, it will include AUS offering workshops to teachers and students of Philadelphia Private School; patronage of selected research, cultural, social and sporting activities and events organized by the school; partial scholarships to distinguished students selected from lists provided by the school; and university preparation courses as well as SAT and TOEFL preparation courses to students from the partner school, as needed.
