AUS strengthens its global standing with strong gains in academic reputation in QS World University Rankings 2025
American University of Sharjah (AUS) continues to perform strongly in the QS World University Rankings by Subject, as revealed in the latest results shared by the ranking agency in March 2025. The institution saw gains in its global academic reputation ranking and broad subject areas, reflecting a growing recognition of the strength of its academic programs when compared with other programs globally.
Rises in broad and narrow subject rankings
In the global broad subject rankings, AUS moved up 20 spots from 365 to 345 in the engineering and technology subject area, which encompasses a wide range of engineering disciplines, and from 375 to 360 in the arts and humanities subject area.
In the narrow subject rankings, AUS maintained its position as the UAE’s top-ranked university for accounting and finance, economics and econometrics, and architecture and the built environment, sharing this top spot with other institutions. The university also maintained its position as the second-ranked university locally for business and management and arts and design. AUS entered the narrow subject rankings for chemistry for the first time this year, ranking within the 601-700 band globally and fourth in the UAE.
Notable results in academic and employer reputation
In the category of employer reputation, AUS continues to rank among the top institutions in the country for various subjects, ranking first for employer reputation in architecture and the built environment, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, and arts and humanities (which ranked second last year). Chemistry, chemical engineering, electrical engineering and economics and econometrics all ranked second.
The university also saw good results in the UAE ranking for academic reputation, coming first in architecture and the built environment, economics and econometrics, and second in art and design (up from third last year).
"Our latest results reflect the dedication of the entire AUS community and our ongoing commitment to academic excellence, which is now being recognized globally. Beyond the rankings, we remain focused on maintaining our reputation as a leading university regionally, that equips our students with both strong theoretical foundations and practical skills—qualities that are increasingly essential in today’s competitive job market. Beyond the rankings, our priority is to ensure our graduates continue to be some of the most sought-after by global employers locally and globally," said Dr. Tod Laursen, Chancellor of AUS.
The QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025 evaluated the reputation and research output of over 5,200 institutions worldwide, formally ranking 1,747 of these across narrow subject areas and broad subject areas. AUS continues to rank among the top 22 percent of ranked institutions worldwide and the top three universities in the UAE in the QS World University Rankings (2025) and has also been ranked among the top 10 Arab universities every year for the past 10 consecutive years, according to QS Arab Region University Rankings (2025).
