AUS student selected as a staff member of NMUN 2019
For the second year in a row, a student from the AUS Student Leadership Program was selected to serve in the National Model United Nations (NMUN) staff body. Vikram Sakkia was selected to serve as the Assistant Director to the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ). The conference will be held March 24–28, 2019 in New York.
Sakkia, a senior majoring in computer engineering, was a member of AUS delegation to NMUN 2018, which secured the Most Outstanding Delegation Award (highest ranking recognition). In addition, Sakkia was selected during the conference to serve as a rapporteur in the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) committee. His remarkable achievements in NMUN 2018 enabled him to be chosen for the NMUN 2019 staff body among many international applicants.
“This experience already requires me to work with people internationally, dealing with time zone conflicts, different cultures and backgrounds. The best part of NMUN 2018 was the incredibly diverse range of people you could find at the conference, and it definitely extends into the NMUN staff as well. It promises to be one of the greatest challenges and greatest accomplishments of my life,” said Sakkia.
“The Student Leadership Program provides students with unique platforms to develop their leadership skills, build confidence and unlock opportunities. Congratulations to Vikram. I wish him all the best during his role at NMUN2019,” said Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Dean of Students.
