AUS students celebrate cultural diversity at Spring 2020 Club Fair
Known throughout the region for its multicultural campus life, American University of Sharjah (AUS) held its Spring 2020 Club Fair at the university’s Student Center today, February 10. The opening day of the two-day event was attended by a large number of students, faculty and staff as well as members of the campus community.
Introducing students, especially those in their first year at university, to AUS’s multinational ethnic and interest-oriented clubs, the event saw 78 student clubs and organizations participating. With approximately 90 nationalities currently enrolled at the university, the Club Fair provides students with an opportunity to take pride in the cultural heritage of the many ethnicities represented on campus.
Attending the event, student Yusur Al Mnaseer, a member of the Iraqi Cultural Club, said: “The Club Fair represents a great opportunity for students to reflect on their culture and traditions. It is also provides students with an excellent chance to learn about cultures other than their own as well try the many different cuisines on offer at the event!”
Organized by the Office of Student Affairs (OSA), the Club Fair also allows students to pursue their personal interests outside the classroom, as well as build leadership skills. This semester 29 cultural clubs, 43 interest-oriented clubs, six OSA units and student associations as well as the Student Council are taking part in the event. One new club–the Network of Students in Medicine and Health (NESMAH)–made its debut at the fair this semester.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Lisa Bardill Moscaritolo, Vice Provost for Student Life, said: “It is great to see the energy and enthusiasm of the students, the student’s organizations, and how they are welcoming the new students and those who still did not get involved from our continuing students.”
The Club Fair will continue until tomorrow, February 11, 2020.
