CAAD students display films at screening night
Students from the College of Art, Architecture and Design (CAAD) at American University of Sharjah (AUS) showed their film projects in the Main Auditorium on January 10.
Over 20 short films were shown, many of which will be entered into various international film festivals, including the Abu Dhabi Film Festival and Cannes Film Festival. Producing the short films is part of two CAAD courses: Film Production 1 (FLM 210), taught by Assistant Professor Jack Swanstrom, and Narrative Structure of Film (FLM 310), taught by Assistant Professor Tim Kennedy.
"I wanted to produce a short action film that shows action rather than telling a story because I felt we needed more genres to be displayed," said Ahmet Ozkul, a senior student majoring in business management whose action-packed film, Red Down Failure, was shown at the event. "Capturing the brutal action of the scenes was quite a challenge. One method I used to motivate the actors was to take a small sample of film shots and show it to them, so that they will want to see the end result," he added.=
The event was organized by the students of both FLM 210 and FLM 310.
