CEN launches film, photography and digital art competitions in celebration of AUS Silver Jubilee
As part of its celebrations of American University of Sharjah’s (AUS) Silver Jubilee, the College of Engineering (CEN) is inviting the AUS community to take part in three competitions to showcase their talents and present some of their most creative work in photography, film and digital art.
Titled “CEN through my Eyes,” the competition gives participants the opportunity to submit their creative work under the categories of photography and short film, as well present futuristic work imagining CEN in 2074 in digital art.
“The three competitions are open to students, faculty members, staff and alumni. We want to see CEN through the eyes of our community. We believe that they can truly capture the essence of university life through their talent,” said Dr. Fadi Aloul, Dean of CEN.
Participants interested in the photography competition can base their work on one of two themes: CEN Architecture, to showcase the harmony between classic Islamic architecture and sleek modern aesthetics; or A Day in CEN, featuring the college’s technology, research and college spirit. Revolving around the same two themes, the short film competition requires participants to submit an upto three-minute film. It can be fictional, documentary, animated, or any other free form, so long as it portrays the theme creatively.
With a theme inspired by AUS’s Silver Jubilee Celebrations, the digital art competition requires participants to tap into their imagination and creatively depict their vision of CEN at 50 years old. The competition is open to all digital art portraying themes related to CEN, from CEN’s diverse culture to the seamless mix of classic Islamic architecture and sleek modern interior found in the college's buildings, to the high-end facilities, artists have a plethora of themes and images to draw inspiration from.
Three winners will be announced from each category in addition to one awarded the people’s choice award.
Winning submissions will be showcased at special CEN events related to the Silver Jubilee and displayed across the CEN buildings.
The submission deadline is February 6. Winners will be announced in early March 2023.
