CEN student highlights AUS sustainability efforts at Ministry of Climate Change event
A student from the College of Engineering (CEN) at American University of Sharjah (AUS) spoke about the university’s drive towards sustainability at the “Role of Youth in the Sustainable Development Goals” session held recently at a special event organized by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment.
Muhammad Yaseen, who is a senior majoring in Computer Science and Youth Ambassador to the United Nations Global Compact U.A.E network, as well as the Ambassador to the Dean of Engineering at the Association of Corporate Engineers (ACE), highlighted AUS’s journey towards a sustainable future and CEN’s efforts to implement a framework which represents principles and values that reveal the commitment to stewardship of resources and respect for the environment. Yaseen provided examples of research projects, including those undertaken by seniors, which are ongoing within the college to drive innovation towards sustainable solutions. He also spoke about the college’s goal to become paperless by 2022 as part of its sustainability plans.
The event was attended by Dr. Thani Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment; Forest Whitaker, actor and Founder and CEO of Whitaker Peace and Development initiative; and Goldie Hawn, actor, humanitarian and Founder of the Goldie Hawn Foundation, among others. The session was moderated by Emirati columnist Khalid Al Almeri.
