Chameleon Orchestra entertains AUS community
The Chameleon Orchestra, comprising nine musicians from different musical and cultural backgrounds, showcased world music in its most open and vivid form at American University of Sharjah (AUS) yesterday March 27, at the university's Main Auditorium on campus.
The orchestra, which was founded in 2013, comprises musicians skilled in a wide variety of instruments including the violin, trumpet, piano, drums, saxophone, clarinet and bass. Through its music, it endeavors to pave the way towards an open-minded approach marked by mutual respect and appreciation.
The orchestra was joined by acclaimed Jordanian singer and song writer, Macadi Nahhas, who revived songs from Middle Eastern heritage with an added contemporary style. Her music, which is a subtle mix of styles, draws heavily on Arabic maqamat and melodic structures.
The concert was attended by members of the AUS community and was organized by the AUS Cultural Events Committee.
