Computer Science and Engineering launches Annual CSE Awards
To recognize the contributions and achievements of undergraduate and graduate students studying computer science and engineering at American University of Sharjah (AUS), the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) has announced the launch of the Annual CSE Awards. The awards, to be presented for the first time this year, will be given in eight categories, including one honoring the achievements of CSE alumni.
With a highly qualified faculty, a multicultural student body, a curriculum that caters to the needs of the region's dynamic marketplace, and well-equipped laboratories, the department continues to produce talented graduates who are sought after by national and multinational corporations in the region as well as those seeking to further their education at reputable graduate schools throughout North America and Europe. The department currently has around 700 students and 1,000 alumni.
Speaking about the establishment of the awards, Dr. Fadi Aloul, Professor and Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, said: “We are fortunate to have many gifted students in our department whose hard work and abilities are evidence of the tremendous potential they possess. From academics and research to leadership and community service, their contributions cover a wide range. We thought that it was time that all their efforts and hard work were celebrated and what better way to do that than to establish an annual award where their contributions are recognized by everyone, including their faculty and peers.”
The awards will be given in the following categories:
1. CSE Undergraduate Academic Excellence Award
2. CSE Graduate Academic Excellence Award
3. CSE Undergraduate Research Excellence Award
4. CSE Graduate Research Excellence Award
5. Outstanding CSE Student Leadership Award
6. Outstanding CSE Student Community Service Award
7. Outstanding CSE Graduate Teaching Assistant Award
8. Outstanding CSE Student Talent Award
9. Most‐Engaged CSE Alumni Award
The department invites students and alumni to apply to one or more of this year’s CSE Annual Awards. The deadline for the application is March 1, 2021. Winners will be announced at the special end-of-the-year CSE social event scheduled for April 2021.
