First Annual Sharakah Soccer Cup held at AUS
The Office of Enrollment Management and the Wellness Program at American University of Sharjah (AUS) held the first Annual Sharakah Soccer Cup on Saturday, April 14. Players included boys from secondary schools participating in the university's Sharakah program.
The tournament, which followed a double elimination format, had almost 280 students participating. Al Ma'arifa School won the cup after beating Sharjah American International School 1-0, while the International School of Arts and Sciences beat Al Rawafed 2-0 and were awarded the plate.
According to Lee Mitchell, Director of Wellness, "We achieved our goals working very closely with the Office of Enrollment Management. Not only did the participants enjoy the tournament and the competition, but the tournament itself personified exactly what we here at AUS are all about: delivering quality of the highest standard. This is the impression everyone left with in terms of our facilities, level of organization and services offered."
AUS recently signed Memorandums of Understanding with 12 secondary schools in the UAE under the Sharakah program whereby AUS will offer workshops to teachers and students; offer patronage of selected research, cultural, social and sporting activities and events organized by the Sharakah partner school; award partial scholarships to deserving students selected from lists provided by the schools; and offer university preparation courses, including SAT and TOEFL preparation courses, as well as recruitment of outstanding students from varied sociocultural and economic backgrounds to AUS.
All participants also toured the AUS campus and had a small taste of what it would be like to be a student at AUS.
