Sharjah Ruler chairs AUS board meeting

His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Sharjah and President of American University of Sharjah (AUS), chaired the meeting of the university’s Board of Trustees held Sunday, January 31, 2021.

His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan reviewed the various measures undertaken by the university in response to COVID-19 and expressed his satisfaction at the progress made in online course delivery, as well as the advancement of the research agenda. His Highness also reviewed and approved resolutions proposed by the board related to the efficient operation and functioning of the university.

The Sharjah Ruler also thanked the university’s board members, faculty and staff for their commitment and hard work during these challenging times.

The board reviewed and discussed various issues, including the success in continuing to attract highly qualified students, the support provided during the pandemic, the efforts made to sustain extracurricular activities during COVID-19, and the health and safety measures implemented by the university,  

Speaking on the occasion, Professor Kevin Mitchell, Chancellor of AUS, said:

“AUS benefits tremendously from the support and guidance of His Highness and the Board of Trustees, which has allowed the university to maintain a focus on continuing to deliver academic programs and advance research, scholarship and creative work in spite of the challenges associated with the pandemic. The strategic direction set by the Board has resulted in an academic community comprised of accomplished faculty, ambitious students, and dedicated alumni who are contributing to making a better world.”
