SLP Peer Leaders adopt freshmen during orientation
Peer Leaders from the Student Leadership Program (SLP) at AUS took an active role during the New Students and Parents Welcome Session held on January 12. Peer Leaders welcomed and assisted incoming freshmen and “adopted” freshmen, whom they will guide and support during the spring semester. Peer Leaders play an integral role in helping new students adjust to university life.
Nada Nassereddin, a junior majoring in international relations, said:
“As a university student, I understand how overwhelming and intimidating freshman year can be. Therefore, as a Peer Leader participating in the New Students and Parents Welcome Session, assisting new students and reassuring their parents gave me great joy. From the complexities of registration to concerns about residential halls, all questions were answered in order to ensure that students are comfortable and prepared. Personally, I found this to be an exceptional experience because it allowed me to meet bright students and make them feel more at home. It is an ideal way to interact, connect, and give back within the AUS community.”
Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Dean of Students, said:
"We are happy with the efforts of our Peer Leaders to assist and guide incoming freshmen. They are role models that positively impact the experience of new students at AUS. We thank them for all their efforts and encourage more students to take part in the Peer Leaders Program.”
Students interested in learning more about the Peer Leaders Program should visit the Student Leadership Program office located in Room A249 on the first floor of the AUS Student Center.
