Sultan appoints Hussain Al Mahmoudi as Chief Executive Officer of AUS Enterprises
American University of Sharjah (AUS) has appointed Hussain Al Mahmoudi as the Chief Executive Officer of the newly established AUS Enterprises. The appointment was approved by the AUS Board of Trustees, chaired by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qassimi, Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Sharjah and President of AUS.
AUS Enterprises was established earlier by an Amiri decree issued by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan as a holding company mandated to develop commercial activities with the aim to strengthen the financial resources of AUS through special purpose vehicles, including the management and execution of investment projects that support the university and strategic initiatives in the academic, research, technology and real estate sectors.
Dr. Björn Kjerfve, Chancellor of AUS, expressed satisfaction over the appointment of Al Mahmoudi. "The appointment of Hussain Al Mahmoudi is a great stride forward in building the investment and commercial business of the university," he said.
Al Mahmoudi expressed his deep gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan for this opportunity. "His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah has always supported UAE nationals and given them the chance to contribute in the development of various fields," he said. He also thanked members of the AUS Board of Trustees for their support. Al Mahmoudi added that the establishment of AUS Enterprises is aligned with the vision of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and a significant milestone in developing the education sector and in supporting the knowledge economy.
Al Mahmoudi holds a bachelor's degree in economics and communications from Seattle Pacific University in the United States and an MBA from AUS. He was the Director General of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry and has previous experience in developing technology and media clusters in addition to practical experience in the oil and gas field locally and internationally. Al Mahmoudi contributed in developing several initiatives related to training young leaders, sustainable development and social responsibility in cooperation between the public and private sector.
