Sultan receives UCL President at AUS
His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qassimi, Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Sharjah, and President of American University of Sharjah (AUS), met with Professor Michael Arthur, President and Provost of University College London (UCL). The meeting took place yesterday, April 7, in the Office of the AUS President, in the main building on campus.
During the meeting, Sheikh Dr. Sultan discussed a wide range of issues with Professor Arthur, which included academic, cultural and architectural matters, among others. The meeting also focused on ways to enhance and develop academic cooperation between AUS and UCL. Professor Arthur also briefed Sheikh Dr. Sultan on UCL's programs. The cultural and artistic events being held in Sharjah as part of the emirate's celebrations as Capital of Islamic Culture 2014 were also reviewed.
Dr. Arthur expressed his appreciation to the Ruler of Sharjah for the services and support extended towards the development of science and culture and noted the new Islamic-style architecture and monuments recently constructed in Sharjah that reflected the identity of the emirate.
The meeting was also attended by Hamid D. Jafar and Riad T. Sadek, members of the AUS Board of Trustees, as well as senior AUS officials.
Subsequent to the meeting, Professor Arthur visited the Dr. Sultan Al Qassimi Centre of Gulf Studies.
