Dr. Mohamed El-Tarhuni
As the Interim Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Provost, Dr. Mohamed El-Tarhuni oversees AUS’ overall academic priorities and has management responsibilities for academic affairs at the university, colleges and school. He works with the deans and the faculty to sustain and advance the highest standards of scholarly achievements at AUS, and to ensure the success of our students through the delivery of high-quality academic programs.
Dr. El-Tarhuni has also served as the Vice Provost for Graduate Studies since 2024 and from 2017 to 2021. He has held several academic administrative positions at AUS, including Vice Provost for Research and Graduate Studies (2021–2024), Associate Dean for Graduate Affairs in the College of Engineering (2014–2017) and Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering (2006–2014). His journey at AUS commenced in 2000 as Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering. Prior to his time at AUS, Dr. El-Tarhuni worked as a member of technical staff at Nortel Networks Wireless Technology Labs in Ottawa, Canada (1997–2000), where he focused on the development of next-generation mobile radio systems.
Dr. El-Tarhuni received his PhD in Electrical Engineering from Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. His teaching and research interests lie in the realm of wireless and digital communications. He boasts over 100 published journal and conference papers and has taken on roles such as founding member, general chair or technical chair for several conferences, including the International Conference of Modeling, Simulation and Applied Optimization (ICMSAO) and the International Conference on Communications, Signal Processing and their Applications (ICCSPA).
