Kofi Annan visits AUS
Dr. Kofi Annan, former Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) visited American University of Sharjah (AUS) on Thursday, February 24, 2013 for a familiarization tour of the university's campus.
Dr. Annan, who served as the seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), was welcomed to the campus by Dr. Thomas J. Hochstettler, the university's Provost; Salem Al Qaseer, Vice Chancellor for Public Affairs; and other officials.
Secretary Annan visited the Main Building, which hosts most of the university's administrative offices; the University Library; and other areas. As part of his visit, he signed the official university guest book.
Dr. Annan served as the UN Secretary-General from 1997 to 2006. During his tenure as UN Secretary-General, Dr. Annan and the United Nations were the co-recipients of the 2001 Nobel Peace Prize for his founding of the Global AIDS and Health Fund to support developing countries in their struggle to care for their people.
Dr. Annan was preceded at the helm of the United Nations by Dr. Boutros Boutros-Ghali and was succeeded by Dr. Ban Ki-moon, the current Secretary-General of the United Nations.
