AUS alumni scale Everest

American University of Sharjah (AUS) alumni Shaikh Mohammad Bin Abdullah Al Thani from Qatar, Raha Moharrak from Saudi Arabia, and Masoud Mohammad from Iran, made their alma mater proud by scaling Mount Everest last month. The three along with Raed Zidarn, Palestinian, made up a team of climbers called "Arabs with Altitude," whose mission was to raise $1 million for education projects in Nepal.

Also noteworthy is that Al Thani and Zidan are the first Qatari and Palestinian males respectively to climb Everest while Moharrak was dubbed the world's first Saudi woman to make the climb.

On speaking about this amazing feat, Al Thani said, "I think that American University of Sharjah produced a young powerful work force that is very enthusiastic and has the potential to reach the highest points of the earth, literally!"

Moharrak, the 25-year-old visual communication graduate from the AUS College of Architecture, Art and Design (CAAD) said, "I never thought in my wildest dreams a simple girl from Saudi could stand on top of the world, but here I am only a year after setting eyes on Everest. I want to tell my peers to never be afraid of having a dream. Live curiously, challenge yourself, explore your limits; you are capable of incredible things, you just need to have the courage to explore."

The group spent two months in Nepal to make the climb.
