Leopards excel at AUS Intercollegiate Racket Tournament
The AUS Intercollegiate Racket Tournament witnessed exciting competition from 23 men's teams and 13 women's teams in its ninth edition held April 13-16, 2014 on campus.
Badminton, table tennis and tennis competitions were conducted for both male and female players while the squash tournament was organized for men only. In the men's category, AUS placed first in squash and second in badminton, table tennis and tennis. The AUS women's teams placed first in tennis and third in badminton.
The closing ceremony and prize distribution were held on April 16, and Dr. Mohamed Helal, Director of Student Athletics and Recreation Department, awarded the trophies and medals to the winners.
Participating teams included the University of Wollongong in Dubai, Middlesex University, BITS-Pilani Dubai, Manipal University, Skyline University College, Canadian University, Emirates Aviation College, Ajman University of Science and Technology, International College of Law Business Administration and Technology, Gulf Medical University Ajman and University of Sharjah, along with AUS. The tournament was organized by the Office of Student Affairs' Student Athletics and Recreation Department.
Congratulating the winners, Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, expressed her happiness in the increase in participation this year. She added that the tournament is a stepping stone for budding players to exhibit their skills and AUS will take all necessary measures for further expansion and development of this tournament to spot young talent in the university arena.
