AUS first educational institution to be awarded GHP Certificate of Appreciation by Sharjah Municipality
Sharjah Municipality has awarded American university of Sharjah (AUS) with the Good Hygiene Practices (GHP) Certificate of Appreciation. The ceremony was held today May 1, 2014 at AUS Faculty Senate Room.
The award was presented by Her Excellency Sheikha Dr. Rasha Al Qassimi, Deputy Director of Sharjah Municipality for Labs and Public Health Affairs to Salem Yousef Al Qaseer, Vice Chancellor for Public Affairs, who received the certificate on behalf of AUS. Present at the ceremony was Riyadh Abdulla Aylan, Director General of Sharjah Municipality and senior officials of AUS and the Sharjah municipality.
Having successfully passed a food and safety audit carried out by Sharjah Municipality in December last year, the university became the first educational institution to attain this recognition. Sheikha Dr. Rasha Al Qassimi congratulated AUS on this achievement and said that Sharjah Municipality was pleased to be awarding this certificate to AUS.
"The GHP program is of great importance," said Salem Al Qaseer. "We thank Sharjah Municipality and their Food Safety Department for taking this step and hope that it will be followed with other similar steps in other places," he added.
The ceremony also saw individuals who participated in the municipality's Master Trainer program receive their certificates. These certificates qualified the successful candidates to become Sharjah certified trainers in food safety. An AUS employee was among the successful certified trainers.
