SLP delegation secures Honorable Mention in National Model United Nations 2014

Eight students from the Student Leadership Program at American University of Sharjah (AUS) secured Honorable Mentions at the National Model United Nations (NMUN 2014) in New York City, held April 13-17, 2014. The award was announced at the closing ceremony, which was held in the United Nations Headquarters.

The NMUN is a unique opportunity for over 5,000 university students from around the world to meet and discuss current political, social and economic crises. Its mission is to provide educational experience, engage in dialogues and debates; and work collectively to find resolutions for world's most complex issues.

The AUS delegation represented Georgia in eight different committees, including the first, second, third and fourth general assembly; the commission on the status of women; the UN environment program; the UN industrial development organization; and organization for the prohibition of chemical weapons.

"My aspiration of reaching the United Nations Headquarters in New York City has finally come true. The NMUN has given me the opportunity to fulfill not only one of my academic but also personal goals. My NMUN experience is one I will never forget," said Tamara Khamis Al-Gunaid, junior student majoring in international relations. "The NMUN NY Conference not only enhances your leadership skills, but also enables you to improve your communication, debate and diplomacy skills. I feel that this experience has enabled me to gain new political aspirations. The determination and professionalism during the conference motivated me further. I recommend this conference to all eligible students as it's a well-rounded experience - I've gained academically, professionally and personally."
